Borrowed Collection Bride: Carlotta
Meet Carlotta; a beautiful, effervescent bride, inside and out! Carlotta married her love, Alex, at Brock House
, one of Vancouver's most picturesque and iconic wedding venues.
Sometimes you meet people who are simply bright shining lights in this world and Carlotta is certainly one of them; we had such a fabulous time at the showroom, swooning over the stunning Jimmy Choos that she had just found at Nordstrom and trying accessories to suit her beautiful Hayley Paige ballgown. Since Carlotta & Alex were planning two receptions, one in Vancouver and the other in Europe, we focused on items that Carlotta could purchase, instead of rent (yes, we do that too!).
TBC: Where did you draw inspiration for your bridal look from?
Carlotta: "Alex and I always wanted an outdoor wedding. Whether it was on a beach in Hawaii, on a farm in England, or in the mountains here in Canada. We wanted a laid back, timeless vibe to our wedding, and something to show case how much we love our friends, our families, and to always look back on our day knowing it was the best it could’ve been. Through hours and hours of researching exactly what kind of wedding we wanted and where it was realistic to host the event considering our home locations, we landed with Vancouver, BC. Alex is from Blackpool, England and I live in Prince Rupert, BC so Vancouver seemed like the fair and easiest location for our guests to attend. We spent days in Vancouver trying to find the perfect setting and with just two hours to spare we decided to view The Brockhouse. We were in love as soon as we stepped on the lawn. We knew it was the perfect spot. With the beach, mountain backdrop, timeless garden, and historic home, it was everything. So I would have to say that a lot of my inspiration for my bridal look came from the venue itself. I wanted my look to match the authenticity of The Brockhouse and the surrounding areas. Another reason validating my bridal look has come from the day Alex asked me to be his girlfriend in 2008. He wrote me a letter signing it as my “English Prince”, so I knew I had to be in a ball gown that was classy enough to be timeless and sophisticated enough not to make me look like a flower girl! :)"
TBC: Did you find that your wedding day style reflected your everyday style, or was it quite a bit different?
Carlotta: "I believe that my wedding day style reflected my everyday style perfectly in every angle possible. I always try to accessorize my everyday outfits with classic jewelry and vintage pieces. I feel like my wedding day style reflected my love for the outdoors, my love for simplicity and yet sophisticated decor, and my love for Alex. Our wedding style really reflected our every day love for each other, magical and timeless. Another reason why I believe my wedding day style reflected my everyday style is because in 2009 during our very first Valentine’s Day together Alex gifted me with a pair of decadent pearl earrings with diamonds complimenting the suit. I have worn those earrings more than any pair of earrings I’ve ever owned in my life and I wanted to wear earrings that were similar to the gift. Elise showed me a pair of pearl earrings holding a tiara of diamonds and once I saw them I knew I would be wearing them on the day of my wedding."
TBC: Was there one accessory that you felt completed your look the most? And why?
Carlotta: "The one accessory that I wore on my wedding day that I feel completed my look would have to be my Grandmother’s 25th anniversary silver bracelet. I was lucky enough to have it as my “something borrowed” because sadly she was unable to attend the wedding given her health, and my Grandfather didn’t want to leave her side. So the best option to feel like both of them were there with me was to wear her bracelet that symbolized the strong love and marriage they have for each other. The bracelet complimented my pearl earrings and delicate pearl hair pin that I had purchased from Elise beautifully."
To say that Petite Pearl Events
did an incredible job on the decor is a complete understatement... all the heart eyes over this one!
TBC: Finally, do you have any advice for future brides, when it comes to defining their own bridal style?
Carlotta: "The best advice I can give for future brides for defining their own bridal style is to go with what comes natural. You don’t want to show up to your wedding looking like someone your future husband has never seen before. You want to walk down the aisle as if he’s seeing you for the first time again, as if he’s going on that first date with the woman he fell in love with. Make sure to style your look by thinking ahead and knowing that in ten or more years you’re not going to look back at your photos wondering why you put a huge tiara on your head, or why you wore giant chandelier earrings because it looked good on a bride on Pinterest. You must style your look by what you’re comfortable with, and what really represents you as a bride and as the person you are!"
An extra note from Carlotta that reminds me yet again, just how lucky we are to have such wonderful brides ;) "My time spent with Elise was amazing. She is a kind, warm-hearted soul that is happy to help you style your wedding look. I felt like I had been friends with her for years once I had stepped into her stunning studio. She is reliable with e-mails and invoices, and will have your wedding pieces sent to you immediately. I would love to visit Elise at her studio one day just to purchase a pair of earrings for my own personal collection. Thank you, Elise, for welcoming me into “The Borrowed Collection” family! :)"
